DPR Commission III Lauds BNN-East Java Police for Busting 3.37 Tons of Cannabis

Jakarta – The House of Representatives' (DPR) Commission III has extended its highest commendation to the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), in collaboration with the Customs and Excise Directorate General and the East Java Regional Police, for successfully dismantling an international narcotics syndicate originating from Thailand. The massive seizure has ignited strong support for the relentless war on large-scale marijuana trafficking.

The operation, which resulted in the confiscation of 3.37 tons of cannabis buds, represents a critical blow to transnational drug networks. Lawmakers emphasize that the achievement transcends mere statistical success, framing it as a direct intervention to shield the nation's future.

"We in Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives are incredibly proud and bestow the highest respect upon this joint operation. Foiling the smuggling of 3.37 tons of cannabis buds worth IDR 4.5 trillion is not just a performance achievement on paper. This is concrete action that has saved more than 10 million Indonesian people, especially the younger generation, from the grip of destruction caused by drugs," stated Habiburokhman during a press briefing on Thursday (2/7/2026), as reported by our media, Terdepan.id.

A New Frontier of Threat to the Youth

A particularly alarming revelation from the case was the intended final form of the narcotics. The sheer volume of cannabis buds was not destined for traditional consumption methods but was allegedly slated for extraction into liquid concentrates specifically designed for electronic cigarettes (vapes). This chilling detail underscores a dangerous evolution in the drug trade's efforts to penetrate youth culture.

By converting raw cannabis into odorless and easily concealed vape liquids, syndicates are actively modernizing their approach to circumvent traditional detection methods and appeal to a tech-savvy demographic. The Commission expressed deep gratitude that the joint task force was able to intercept the goods before the extraction process could begin, effectively dismantling a production pipeline that would have flooded the country with a virtually undetectable substance.

The interception not only secures the immediate threat posed by the raw tonnage but also neutralizes the exponential risk of millions of refillable vape cartridges hitting the streets. This proactive measure by the BNN and the East Java Police reaffirms the necessity of strengthening inter-agency intelligence to combat the non-traditional trafficking of plant-based narcotics. The Head of Commission III expressed a decisive thumbs-up for the operation, endorsing the full legal pursuit of the international network responsible for the shipment.
